Old Business:
Annie read the minutes. They were accepted
Michele suggested that members read the meeting notes online before the
meeting and if there are any comments or changes they could be discussed
at the meetings. Motion accepted.
New Business:
Empty Bowls
Helen reported that the clay (^10 and a very limited amount of ^5 B-MIX)
is at Cindercone for our empty bowl contribution. Potters can connect
with Helen by phone or email to pick up clay or to deliver bowls. 317-5953,
When picking up clay please leave your name and the amount of clay you’re
taking. We're figuring 20 bowls, at a pound and a quarter per bowl, out
of a 25 lb. bag. Potters are welcome to donate as many bowls as they'd
like -- its great practice for throwing -- but please return 20 finished
bowls for each bag of clay they take. hbomm@bendbroadband.com. The deadline
for delivering the finished bowls is November 1st. COCAAN has a storage
area to collect the finished pieces. Clay can be picked up or finished
bowls can be delivered at our next meeting at Cinder Cone. The Pottery
Olympics will be held on August 6th and COCAAN is hoping for a good turnout
of artists and others. It would be EXTREMLY helpful if potters could come
by on August 7th to trim bowls.
Group Buys:
Connie would like to set up a system for group buys. She circulated a
list for all interested folks to sign up and request needed items. We
also discussed suppliers.
Clayfest:
Helen downloaded and copied applications for people interested in applying
to Clayfest.
Eleanor wondered if anyone had ever participated in an Open Studio Tour
or if the idea had ever been discussed. Everyone was very interested and
the topic will be revisited.
WILDFIRE
Linda passed out applications for the show and will send them out to absent
members.
Lighting: The Boys and Girls club has halogen gym lights. Electricity
for lighting will be available for participants if they wish for a nominal
fee. Cost is $25.00.
Group Booth: There are quite a few members interested in the group booth.
At this time there are only 4 spaces in that area. Committee Chairs were
put on a priority list as a benefit for their contribution to the organization
and at this time it looks like it is full. We will need to either build
shelves or borrow OPA’s shelving. Jolene asked if there is any accommodation
for hanging pieces and it was thought that maybe we could borrow some
hanging walls from the RAKU club.
The group booth dimensions allows for 4 shelves per person.
Wendy asked the question: what if more than 4 people want to be in the
group booth? Linda explained that the “problem” with the Group
Booth is that the display is supplied and we don’t have enough shelving
to accommodate more than 4 people without incurring building costs and
actually constructing more displays. Discussion centered on methods to
pick group booth participants in a fair and equitable manner. After a
lengthy discussion it was decided to wait until all the applications are
in and we will decide how to proceed at that time.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 Pm Then Peter Meyer gave a stellar How
to Photograph your Own Work Demo. THANK YOU PETER!
